Girl You Know It’s True: Milli Vanilli is still captivating, fascinating and extremely moving in the summer of 2024. Director Simon Verhoeven achieves something with this film that you wouldn’t necessarily expect. He doesn’t just depict the story of the rise and fall of the greatest fake pop duo of all time, but captures energy, doubt, ecstasy and attraction in the most intense way. You might have thought you basically knew the story of Milli Vanilli. Far from it! There’s Still Tomorrow | OPEN AIR CINEMA

Closed

The sensational success from Italy has clearly struck a nerve. And took our hearts by storm!

In its home country, it grossed more at the cinema box office than the biggest blockbusters “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer”. Hard to believe, really. But why is that? In timelessly beautiful black and white images, director Paola Cortellesi creates an almost dreamlike atmosphere that lingers for a long time.
Violence against women and the fight against patriarchy are combined in Rome in 1946 to create an incredibly powerful, solidary and life-affirming story of emancipation that could not have been staged in a more entertaining, sensual, imaginative and, above all, humorous way. A powerful piece of cinema that you literally float out of. Also thanks to Outkast!

“C’è ancora domani”, Director: Paola Cortellesi, Italy 2023, 118 minutes, FSK: from 12 years, original version with German subtitles

Admission, drinks and food from 6 pm, film starts at 9.30 pm if it is dark enough

Ticket prize: 12.90 euros – including advance booking fee

Barbie | OPEN AIR CINEMA

Closed

Need we say anything more? Barbie shaped generations as a doll – and is now redefining zeitgeist and pop culture once again in the form of a film! Greta Gerwig may not have received an Oscar nomination for her direction, but cinema-goers around the world fell at her feet. Her very own, bold interpretation of the Barbie myth was the cinema hit par excellence. Because, in addition to its brightly coloured interiors, heartbreaking songs and scurrility, it is also cleverly constructed throughout – and also quite evil (at least if you ask Ken). The wonderfully absurd, feminist pamphlet in pink is tender, funny, sad and always gives hope – in terms of the fight for equality for women in society, culture and film!

“Barbie”, Director: Greta Gerwig, USA 2023, 114 minutes, FSK: from 6 years, original version with German subtitles

Admission, drinks and food from 6 pm, film starts at 9.30 pm if it is dark enough

Ticket prize: 12.90 euros – including advance booking fee

Bob Marley: One Love | OPEN AIR CINEMA

Closed

Of course, one evening after Skip Marley’s live performance, we will be playing Bob Marley’s fantastic musical biography on the big screen (which Skip also contributed to musically) as a kind of double homage and furious encore. Some summer days can be summarised carefree in one sentence: “Every Little Thing Gonna Be Alright!” Or even shorter: One Love!

“Bob Marley – One Love”, Director: Reinaldo Marcus Green, USA 2024, 107 min., FSK: from 12 years, original version with German subtitles

Admission, drinks and food from 7 pm, film starts at 9 pm if it is dark enough

Ticket prize: 12.90 euros – including advance booking fee

Back to Black | OPEN AIR CINEMA

Closed

In this biopic about the life, voice and work of the exceptional artist Amy Winehouse, who died at the age of 27, director Sam Taylor-Johnson doesn’t focus too much on the well-known depths of her short career. And that’s right. Instead, the film tells her story with empathy and fascination, revelling in the almost magical songs and recalling a talent that has rarely been equalled in music history. One could philosophise for a long time about the beauty of inner fire and the contradiction between fulfilment and success. Or you could watch this film and experience the power of these lyrics more intensely than ever before. What’s more, the previously unknown Marisa Abela plays Amy Winehouse so convincingly that you keep rubbing your eyes. With astonishment and emotion.

“Back to Black”, Director: Sam Taylor-Johnson, USA/UK 2024, 122 minutes, FSK: from 12 years, original version with German subtitles

Admission, drinks and food from 6 pm, film starts at 9.30 pm if it is dark enough

Ticket prize: 12.90 euros – including advance booking fee

A million minutes | OPEN AIR CINEMA

Closed

Everything seems to be fine with the Küper family: Berlin-Mitte, dream flat, top jobs that make sense and earn money at the same time. But there are a few questions: Who will stay with the children? Where are the shared experiences? How do you divide time fairly? What about closeness, career, expectations? These are questions that are constantly on the minds of everyone between 30 and 45, sometimes more, sometimes less.
“A Million Minutes” describes exactly the length of a time-out that the family takes. Time to get away from everyday life, to think again, to reconnect. Then it’s off to Thailand and Iceland. And both countries not only provide us with impressive images and intense encounters, but also form the backdrop for one of the strongest German films of recent times.

With outstanding performances by Karoline Herfurth and Tom Schilling, the film evokes something very special: a reflection on one’s own living conditions, relationships, time – above all, leisure time! And that is precisely why this “A Million Minutes” fits in so well with the weekend’s main theme of “Leisure”. Hamster wheel was yesterday, today it’s WESTCOAST!

“A Million Minutes”, Director: Christopher Doll, Germany 2023, 125 minutes, FSK; without age restriction, German original version

Admission, drinks and food from 6 pm, film starts at 9.30 pm if it is dark enough

Ticket prize: 12.90 euros – including advance booking fee

Perfect Days | OPEN AIR CINEMA

Closed

Wim Wenders guides us through Japan and accompanies Hyrayama, who cleans public toilets in Tokyo every day with unwavering calm, meticulousness and composure. He seems content with his simple, secluded life and devotes himself to his passions for music and literature away from the structured daily routine. “Perfect Days” is a deeply moving, poetic reflection on the beauty of the everyday, on light, shadows, trees and movement. The lead role is embodied by Kōji Yakusho in such an engaging way that you just want to watch him go through his routines forever. This meditation in slowness is also a nod to musicians such as The Animals, Patti Smith and, of course, Lou Reed, whose song “Perfect Day” gives the film its title. A perfect film!

“Perfect Days”, Director: Wim Wenders, Japan 2023, 123 minutes, FSK: no age restriction, original version with German subtitles

Admission, drinks and food from 6 pm, film starts at 9.30 pm if it is dark enough

Ticket prize: 12.90 euros – including advance booking fee
