Over the past two months, the FRANKFURT WESTSIDE neighborhood development in Frankfurt’s Griesheim district has celebrated the start of development work and the second edition of the WESTSIDE SUMMER.

Start of the development measures

On July 19, 2024, all those involved in the FRANKFURT WESTSIDE project celebrated the start of construction of the development measures with around 75 guests, including mainly those involved in planning and current contractors, at a relaxed get-together. WESTSIDE SUMMER 2024: 7 weeks of cultural summer at the WESTCOAST

Following the immense popularity of the WESTSIDE SUMMER cultural format last year, a shared experience was once again organized this summer from 19 July to 30 August on the banks of the Main in Griesheim. The popularity, which far exceeded expectations, prompted the decision to expand the ambitious cultural program once again and to arrange it in a particularly diverse way for young and old this year. Between the industrial heritage, the old crane and the riverbank, a unique cultural venue was once again created with radiance for the region. Well over 8,000 guests enjoyed a varied program with eight open-air cinema events, a concert by Skip Marley (the internationally renowned grandson of Bob Marley), workshops, talks, a children’s program, DJ sets and curated readings. What is now Frankfurt’s largest open-air cinema was always completely sold out. The summer at WESTCOAST 2024 ended with the patronage of the 33rd Griesheim Mainuferfest on August 31 and the reception of the Economic Development Agency on September 4. This allowed WESTCOAST to grow into a lively community space for Griesheim residents, for those interested in culture in the region, for visionaries, business partners, for everyone. And anyone who was able to witness how hundreds of people spontaneously danced together and hugged each other immediately after the final open-air cinema event with “Dirty Dancing” was able to get a feeling for the location and atmosphere that has a lasting effect and points to the future.
